Trying to find the right health insurance coverage you need can be confusing.. At Santa Cruz Life & Health we help Californians understand what their options are so they’re confident they’re buying the right health insurance plan for their specific needs.
Being an independent agency, we can help you choose the plan that best fits your needs! As with most insurance products, the richer the benefit package, the higher the premium. Some clients prefer medical plans with low deductibles and annual out-of-pocket maximums that reduce their claim exposure. Other clients prefer lower monthly premiums and enroll in high deductible plans and pay more for claims, if and when they occur.
We represent carriers like Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield and Health Net.

BELOW ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDICAL PLANS.
PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans are the most popular and have the most flexibility. Claims are paid at the highest level when you receive medical care from doctors or hospitals that have a contract with the carrier. Services received by out-of-network providers may be paid at a lower benefit level.
HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plans require you to choose a primary care physician that will provide most of your health care and refer you to a specialist if needed. Services obtained outside of the HMO are typically not covered, except for emergency services.
HSA (Health Savings Account) eligible medical plans are PPO plans with high deductibles and are usually paired with a tax-favored financial account. Most plans do not cover prescription drugs or medical services (other than preventive care) until the deductible has been met. You may purchase an HSA eligible plan without setting up a financial account.
A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-favored financial account set up with an HSA-eligible medical plan. The HSA allows you to contribute funds on a pre-tax or tax-deductible basis, which you may use to pay for eligible medical expenses. Additional information may be found under Healthcare Resources.
